Overview Of NRA Training At CRRC
NRA First Steps Courses for modern Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun are the latest addition to the NRA's training programs for new shooters. FIRST stands for "Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training". These courses provides hands-on orientation to one specific rifle, pistol or shotgun model. All courses are only a half day in length and participants receive a completion certificate. Contact Vic at the e-mail address below for more information.
NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses in the disciplines of Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun teach the principles of safe handling and shooting which help to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude for safe and legal use of firearms. These courses are available to all persons not precluded by law from using firearms.Ownership of a firearm is not necessary as they will be provided as needed. All courses are 12 to 14 hours in length over two days.
Please note that before enrolling in a formal NRA Instructor Certification Course for a given discipline, a candidate must satisfy a prior experience requirement for that discipline. Successful completion of an NRA Basic Course in a given discipline automatically satisfies the experience requirement for that discipline, but successful completion of an NRA First Steps Course does not.
Basic Instructor Training is a mandatory prerequisite before admission into any NRA Instructor course and is Part I of all NRA Instructor courses. It is a 6 hour course in basic teaching techniques and other NRA requirements for organizing and presenting all NRA Basic Firearms Training. Part I needs to be successfully completed only once.
Certified Instructor Courses are Part II of the certification process and are offered in all shooting sports disciplines, e.g. Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, etc. These programs also provide for Assistant Instructors and Apprentice Instructors (for youth ages 13 - 17).
Acceptances into Certified Instructor courses require the approval of an NRA Certified Training Counselor. All courses listed will be conducted at the CRRC Range in West Windsor Township, see www.crrc.org for information about the Club.
