Boy Scout Rifle Shooting Merit Badge Program
Each Fall, the Citizens' Rifle and Revolver Club (CRRC) hosts a rifle-shooting program specifically for Scouts
interested in the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge.
The 2017 program will consist of three sessions:
Wed-Oct-25-2017, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM, Safety Class;
Sat-Oct-28-2017, 9:00 AM - Noon, Shoot 1;
Sat-Nov-04-2017, 9:00 AM - Noon, Shoot 2.
Written study materials will be distributed at the Safety Class. Candidates will also be required to complete a take-home, open-book test on Hunting Laws In New Jersey. Scouts are exempted from this exam if they have passed a Basic Hunter Education Course or if they have already completed the Hunting Laws Requirement while earning the Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge.
The second Saturday starts with a written closed book exam on firearms safety and basic marksmanship. As soon as a Scout finishes the exam, he can begin shooting the remaining targets he needs to satisfy the Proficiency Requirement.
This is a fairly intensive course and probably not recommended for a Scout's first Merit Badge. The instructors will defer to the Scout Leaders judgment in deciding who can and who cannot enroll in the program.
Scouts should also keep in mind that they can also earn the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge by participating in the CRRC Junior Rifle Program. This is a much more extensive program, but somewhat more flexible in scheduling. Yes, a Scout can participate in both programs.
All equipment including rifles of various sizes, eye protection ear protection, ammunition, and targets, will be supplied. There will be a small fee charged for materials and ammunition.
As with other Boy Scout shooting activities, parents and leaders are encouraged to take the training along with the Scouts. Scouts who need to satisfy their Proficiency Requirement, however, will be given priority on the range.
Each Scout should bring a Blue Card to the first session. Each Blue Card must have all the Scout's data filled in on both sides and must be signed by the Scout's Leader. The deadline for registration is TBD. Scouts should register early to guarantee a place in the Program. There is a $TBD fee for the program.
